Digital Streets: Extreme Right-Wing Lifeworlds Online

In Austria, there is hardly any conceptualized youth work with extreme right-wing individuals and groups at the moment, let alone systematized techniques of online street work. One exception is the association TURN which will contribute its expertise gained in participatory and “vireal” work with formerly Salafist-oriented adolescents.

The project “Digital Stress” combines two questions: 1) On the analytical level: In which vireal social spaces do extreme right-wing “echo chambers” develop, and how are they used by young people? 2) How can online street work be accomplished (mainly social space and lifeworld analysis, possibly contact design, relationship design, offering of services, etc.)?

Digital spaces are collectively evaluated and the establishment of contact is autonomously attempted, if applicable. The experiences thus derived are to be made available to the public as project output. Based on this, individual surveys for bachelor theses in the fields of youth work, youth Social Work, and probationary services can be conducted, analyzed, and played back to the project group.
