Research projects carried out at the Ilse Arlt Institute for Social Inclusion Research to date have made it clear that neither the general public nor professionals working in the context of caring for older persons are aware of the possibilities that Social Work offers for older people and their relatives and other caregivers. Neither do the affected persons themselves have a concrete idea of Social Workers’ professional activities and their benefit for them. And when it comes to the few Social Work offers that already exist in this practical context, it is often observed that people are reluctant to use them or even reject them outright because they lack the necessary knowledge.
This is why nursing staff and other professionals who have already recognized the potential of Social Work in this context frequently express the wish to pass on easily understandable accounts of Social Work action.
In order to improve this situation, short films were created for a broader audience in cooperation with the Department of Media & Digital Technologies that closely described relevant activities of Social Work on behalf of older people and their relatives and caregivers in concise form.
