In recent years, bachelor and master theses at the Department of Social Sciences have contributed to the development of various instruments and methodologies aimed at assessing the life situations, resources, and stressors experienced by relatives caring for older adults. These tools were designed to identify potential support needs. To date, however, these instruments have undergone limited testing and evaluation, leaving their practical applicability largely unexplored.

This research project aims to systematically identify, test, and refine the most suitable methods for use in professional practice. In a subsequent phase, the selected methods will be organized into a coherent and transparent framework, making them readily accessible for practitioners in the field. Additionally, the project will produce and accessibly publish a user-friendly set of recommendations to facilitate family conversations around care and nursing. By providing structured guidance, the project seeks to empower relatives to engage in family talk about topics that are often considered sensitive or taboo in an appropriate way.
