System Crasher – a Cry for Help?! Chances, Possibilities, and Challenges in a Social Pedagogy Context

In educational and care institutions, the discussion of systems and framework conditions that are obviously not suitable for all children and adolescents is a sensitive issue. Consequences such as massive problems in working and living together as well as exclusion and the discontinuation of care are broached by Social Work practitioners. Affected persons are often referred to as “Drehtürklient*innen“ (“revolving door clients”) or “Systemsprenger*innen” (“system crashers”), which leads to the further labelling of the children and adolescents involved.

One possible perspective is on the resources that these children and adolescents have, and the gaps and shortcomings that they point out. These can be of central importance for the further development of offers and structures on behalf of youth welfare, as history has shown over and over again.

The uniform standard cost model, which has been in force since 2019, means massive financial losses for specialized institutions that pursue or used to pursue sociotherapeutic approaches. This could result in a further aggravation of the situation for the affected persons.
