Before the psychiatry reform was implemented towards the end of the 20th century, persons with mental illness or disability had been making experiences with traditional stationary psychiatry for years and decades. While these experiences have been partly suppressed by now, they still determine their daily lives by preventing those affected from tapping into their personal resources. This project seeks to record these experiences before this is no longer possible for demographic reasons.
Partner Projects at Masaryk University
At the same time, a homonymous project is carried out at Masaryk University in Brno (Czech Republic) which is connected to our project through an Erasmus+ agreement. We expect this this connection to yield possibilities for comparison with a country that followed a different path in psychiatry for 100 years, while at the same time sharing common roots with Austria.
